carioca, again, welcome to the site.
Admin., the photo appears the same except for the logo. If llama didn’t take it, is that allowed? Obviously, many of the photos were doctored to add the logo. Obviously, I haven’t read the fine print… just asking…

Of course, you know that I did NOT enter the contest, I’m just doing my housekeeping. And, you may call me Ken. So may anyone else, for that matter. For new people that have questions, I usually try to help them out.
P.S. Is kookoo brown nosing? Results are being tabulated. Hmmm…
P.P.S. Sorry, I just couldn’t help myself!

Indeed, Kookoo! That, or our dearest Empress. ;-)
I don’t think it’s a problem if the photo was doctored. I think the problem is that a “non-free image” may have been (or may not have been; let’s not jump to conclusions!) used, in the parlance of Wikipedia. Using a photo that is neither public domain nor one to which you have copyrights is a big no-no for commercial ventures, and is increasingly a faux pas for everyone else as well.

For sure, SC. As I explained above, I only skimmed the contest rules when I joined the site. Not intending to enter, I really don’t remember what they said about using your own photos, etc. Plus, we really don’t know what happened, as you said. Some newbies are jumping to conclusions, though, so be aware. I’ve met one already and am trying to calm him/her down. I have to think (hope) that the admin. has it under control and we should just wait it out, trying to help them deal with some of the fallout if possible…
P.S. Awwww, thank you all for your kind words, they mean a lot to me. Don’t forget the dearest part when I get bitchy, SC!

Funny that the winner is already announced considering the rules say, “Potential winners will be notified by mail, email or phone on or around February 7, 2008.” Just found that a bit odd. Anyway, congrats to the winner.

Well, you know, I consider 1/29/08 to be on or around Feb. 7th. It’s obvious that we folks get to know extra early! Yay!
Congrats chosetec! Can I borrow your laptop? lol

Funny…I thought the entries had to be in by January 7th at exactly 11:59 PM…however, this photo did not appear on the website until sometime this week…no way this was posted on January 5th..I’ve looked at all the pictures at least once a day to check for a winner…

The photo was uploaded by chosetec on 05 Jan 20:24 (see the comments on the photo itself). They uploaded many photos during that day; perhaps you missed it.

I’d like to thank the admins for holding the contest, and everyone for their honest opinion on my set of photos. I see that we’ve raised a bit of commotion, and a sizeable batch of negative reactions. A few general answers to some of these reactions:
1) Yes, we wanted the prizes. who doesn’t? They are awesome prizes and I am going to share them with my team members. I’m holding onto the camera, which will be my first SLR camera. I personally love taking pictures, and look forward to trying out the D200. For some tamer pics, the curious ones can have a look at my photo collection:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/chosetec/sets/
1)b. No, we didn’t only do this for the prizes. Before I went out to get props, makeup, and tripods, etc., we all agreed that first and foremost we’re doing this to have fun. and that we did! It’s the first time I’ve ever done a “zombie” photoshoot, and it’s just plain fun to make up a story, and play director, and try different compositions, poses, lighting, etc. Given the not-so-”godly” nature of our planned scenes, I was almost positive we would not win.
2) As an agnostic near-atheist, I posted pictures that reflected how I would view the situation if the I AM LEGEND story happened. I believe the creators of this site wanted to open up not just to Christians, but also to non believers, so that we could each share our point of view. Mine is that I’m not so sure there’s a God loving us, when scary tragic things happen to good people. Just my point of view, which I tried to express in the pictures. Until now I’ve not really made it clear what I believe, I wanted people to try to interpret the pics on their own.
3) I fail to see the rationale for all the protest, since everything possibly objectionable in my photoset (i.e. guns, flesheaters, blood, tragedy) is depicted in abundance in I AM LEGEND (a movie which I thoroughly enjoyed, which is one big reason why I tried to reenact it in spirit) Yes, the blood is fake. Yes, that’s not a real nightstalker, it is my friend in white makeup. Even so, what’s with all the hating? We’re just college students, out to have fun and shoot some pics. We really didn’t think it would offend so many people given the I.A.L. connection.
To conclude, no hard feelings. Even as an agnostic near-atheist, I like what they’re doing with this site, especially bringing together atheists and Christians to debate their beliefs in a civil way in the forums (not so much the photo comments). Otherwise we’d just spend all day preaching to our own choirs (or anti-choirs, whatever the atheists have to make music). Everybody, take care, and be nice to each other. See you around in the forums,
Brian

I disagree Knightmare, I’ve seen the picture on the site several times since the first week of January.
chosetec/Brian, hearty congratulations and a big round of applause! I thought that your photoset was fantastic and you deserve the prize, for sure! I didn’t notice any commotion, but then again never realized that I could have commented on the pictures while viewing them because I’m an idiot. I’m sorry I missed those comments you speak of, I would have told them off! Fine, you like something, you don’t like something, no reason to get nasty about it! Protest, schmotest! You won AND you deserve it! Please stay around for awhile, we like having you here! Warmest regards, Ken
P.S. We call them choruses! (lol)
