“They?”
>EC, stop. One of the things Dex is talking about is a disconnect. It doesn’t just come from “us” Christians, there are assumptions made on the “other” side about Christians that “they” have gotten from a minority of us.

Yes, a minority. What I particularly like about Dex’s posts is that he really does sound like the majority. We’re not bad guys, despite what the likes of Falwell and Robertson would have you believe.

Then why do people like falwell and rush limbaugh or that other piece of shit ted haggart have so many followers and why do right voting christians vote in the most corrupt and inept leaders in the entire country? I’m sorry for getting the wrong impression of how christians think but what else am I supposed to go on? Everything I see everywhere is just negative. You are delusional if you think it’s just a small minority

I seriously hope you are joking. Israel has the largest army budget in that whole region. They have the most nukes in the region. They are backed by the US 100%.And it’s not even their land! Also, is that implying israelies are tolerant? They would love to be able to make the entire arab world a crater because they see them as evil muslims if it was more socially acceptable. All you have to do is look at lebanon. I really really really hope you are joking because if you believe the nonsense on that site you are very sadly uninformed.

Coffee is a good way for some people to get their s**t together upon waking up. It affects people in different ways. I love it so much, i even get a “lift” out of decaf! There is nothing else like it. It can be like picking out a fine wine. I prefer varietals, i.e. Costa Rican, Guatemala, Kenya AA, all the beans in a pot from one source. Most coffees are blends of various beans, especially the canned preground ones, as they have to appeal to everyone in order to sell a lot.

One reason I think is because they seem to see things in pretty black and white terms such as you are going to burn in hell or you’re not. It seems like those who feel they are “in the know” have a superiority complex. I have been talking with christians about their belief or whatever and have them say “oh well I guess we will see when yr burning in hell” as part of a serious discussion because they didn’t know what else to say! As someone who is on the other side looking at christianity, i can say that how you perceive yr faith is a lot more accurate to what jesus preached about than most people. It does say in the bible the road to heaven in narrow right? Don’t worry man. Most people are stupid anyway and wont understand that you’re trying to be a good person in accordance with yr religion.

Seems more likely to me than being purposefully created by a living, thinking something. (God.) And where did he come from again? Nothing?

God is eternal. the only reason you would ask where he came from is because of the inherently skewed viewpoint from a perspective inside our space-time continuum. We are all predisposed to a linear view of time perpetuated by our teachers having us make time lines in school. We imagine eternity as a line going infinitely from the left to infinity on the right. In result we imagine God as a being that has lots of time. The truth is that the time line is more or less a blip. God has no mass and is not subject to gravity, He therefore exists outside the realm of time altogether. He always has been and always well be. It is folly to ask where He came from.

and you know this…..how? Do you have some viewpoint the rest of us don’t? I’m sorry but telling people “facts” about something you have 0 proof on just kinda makes you seem like a jack ass. I’m not trying to call you out or be a dick but seriously, you are stating your subjective opinion as fact and that is what bothers me the most. God has no mass? Really? Tight. I’m glad you guys are buddies.

Arandur wrote:
>Thanks, Koo. Yes, your reason for the widespread use of Bibles in education is a major one. I don’t discount Jefferson’s words, I just place them in context to try to ascertain his meaning. I know you were being sarcastic, but considering his times, do you really think he intended the 1st Amendment to direct the goverment to purge religion thoroughly from all its activities, buildings, documents, and places?

EC, the way I’m using and defining worship, I bet you do worship something. What do you place first in your life, either ideally or practically through your actions? What guides your thoughts and actions? What do you sacrifice for? What do you consider your greatest want or highest good? What do you spend your time on to the exclusion of other things, or let your mind dwell on to the exclusion of other things (even if you think you value something else more highly)? What do you seek to make you happy? What gives you meaning?

There is probably no one thing that is the answer to all of these questions for you, but they are all questions aimed at finding out what you “worship,” in the extended Biblical sense of “idol worship.” Maybe you’re a nihilist and don’t see meaning or worth in much of anything…then you’re “worshipping” that ideal. The only people I can think of who aren’t worshipping much of anything are those caught in the throes of depression who can’t see anything to give meaning or happiness or value, etc, and that proves my point.

ehhhh I see your point but I really don’t think worship is really the correct word to use for how I feel about the important things in my life. I admire or respect but the word worship just does not fit into how I see anything in life really.

Koo, I moved out and am sleeping on peoples couches for a while so my internet use is not as much as it used to be.

I don’t need god and I don’t worship anything. There is no need to do so. We’re not in the dark ages anymore. You can appreciate things like drugs or money or entertainment but nothing says you have to or that everyone worships these things. You talk about societies with religion that have succeeded, but thats only with years and years of war and intolerance to other religions( just take a look at the entire middle east). Thats why they are around so long. The soviet union used atheism but most russians were not atheists so I don’t think thats a good example of an atheist society.

I just watched an hour of it. Do they get out alive? It just got too lame and it isn’t a sea monster so i’m even more dissapointed.
